We could all use a little escape from the dust of everyday life lately couldn’t we? It’s a proven fact that engaging in an art process can have a positive impact on our mental and physical well-being. I’ve spent a lifetime as a career artist and I know how getting lost in an art project can shut the world out, calm my senses and bring me to a place of peace and contentment.
HELLO!
I’m Joyce. I’ve been an illustrator and product designer for over 4 decades. I love to play and experiment with many mediums. I am now focusing on painting just for fun and I’ve got plenty of good stuff to share with you!
I am working on creating several workshops designed to encourage experimentation and play. My focus is all about using creativity as a stress-buster and there will be something for everyone.
Throw away the notion that you have no“talent”. Talent is not a factor here. We are all creative - every one of us. Remember our childhood days of crayons and tempera paint - the carefree way we drew a tree in our own way? It didn’t matter if it was right or wrong or what color we chose or if anyone else liked it. That is what this workshop is about- bringing all that back into focus for the fun of engaging in pure play. You’ll find your child’s voice again if you just take a leap of faith and get started. That’s a fact. I am here to share and ready to help. If you love color and a bit of whimsy you are going to have a wonderful time!

Paint A Colorful Forest
Introduction to oil pastel
In this class I will show you my favorite way to work with oil pastel to achieve a colorful, exciting impressionistic style of painting. You will immediately get lost in the freedom of this highly pigmented medium. There is no mixing of color or waiting for paint to dry - just simply grab a brilliant color and get lost in the process. The oil pastel medium itself pretty much guarantees you can not get fussy or perfect - that's what I really love about it! If impressionist painting is the end result you are looking for, oil pastels will keep you moving in that direction.
I am demonstrating my process with a landscape but there's no reason you can't go on and paint a still-life, floral or even an abstract with oil pastel.
WHEN?
Soft pastels are one of - if not my most favorite mediums. Vibrant and expressive is the best way to describe them. If you are intrigued with the idea of picking up a stick of pure, rich color and seeing where it can take you, this class is for you. You can do so much with this wonderful medium and a simple Google inquiry will lead you to plethora of on-line workshops and YouTube videos. As with any medium, you’ve got to start somewhere so I will demonstrate a few basics with a more serious focus on my own favorite way to work with soft pastels. Disclaimer: they are messy and dusty and if you can get past that… they are addictive and simply luscious!!
